It is important to preface all this with the fact that the state of Minnesota already has a law on its books that states that marriage is only between a man and a woman in the state of Minnesota. That is law. So if the amendment fails, there will not be a rash of same sex marriages taking take place in the state.as feared by some of the backers of the amendment.

Doug, I enjoyed reading your Christmas letter. It was nice using a Carol to help us ask those same questions those shepherds and wise must have asked themselves when they came upon the baby Jesus. Love you and hope to see around Christmas.

Thank you so much for this reflection. I, too, am amazed to learn that Do You Hear What I Hear was written in response to the Cuban Missile Crisis – I just assumed the carol was “older” than that. It’s one of my favorites, and now I will reflect on it a little differently.

I know we all have a Veteran in each of our family histories who served in the armed forces somewhere, sometime, past or present. Please say a prayer for them as they have kept and are keeping this great nation safe and free so that each of us can pursue whatever it is that we want.

We are delighted to see the list of new members, some of whom we know and some we do not know. We are especially pleased to see many have kids, a fact that is enlivening for those of us who came with kids many years ago. Several “New Member Sundays” would be a great way to see and meet them. Several weekly worship opportunities make it difficult to see everyone.

One of the reasons we were drawn to St. Luke’s was the strong outreach and outward focus of the congregation. Instead of raising money and donating time to benefit the congregation, St Luke’s clearly raised money and donated time to the benefit of others. I think many religious communities have lost this focus; kudos to those who help us keep this focus. My commitment is to do at least one additional activity this year; will others join me?
