CONSPIRING TO WORSHIP FULLY, SPEND LESS, GIVE MORE AND LOVE ALL

We wait in JOYFUL HOPE for the coming of our Savior…Jesus Christ!

Advent is a time to perfect and focus on how we wait…growing in our ability to WORSHIP FULLY…SPEND LESS…GIVE MORE…AND LOVE ALL.

I was introduced to the idea of THE ADVENT CONSPIRACY last year and had the opportunity to read a book by the same title.  It is a movement begun in 2006 by several pastors who had the desire to offer an alternative to the sometimes frenzied nature of December.

So this Advent…I would like to invite you to participate in the Sunday Forums which will focus on these four themes:

WORSHIP FULLY

SPEND LESS

GIVE MORE

LOVE ALL

On Sunday, 2 December, we will explore what worshipping fully looks like for each of us.  What are your earliest remembrances of Christmas?  Favorite Carols…Christmas Pageant memories…Household experiences?  We will also invite you to make an Advent Wreath for your household.  We will provide the materials and will ask for a donation to cover the cost of the wreath.  I am so grateful to Dana Sparks, my life partner, who will lead us in this activity.  Wreath Making will be available after each service…Saturday Evening and Sunday Morning.  We will also be blessed with a special visitor who makes his presence known annually on the Sunday nearest 6 December…which is the Feast of St. Nicholas!

On Sunday, 9 December, we will discuss some ideas of how to spend less this Christmas Season…is Christmas about giving or getting…How have you been intentional about your gift giving at Christmas time?

On Sunday, 16 December, we will look at ways to give more…of ourselves…of our time and resources…for the sake of others.  The Rev. Barry Lehman, a Moravian Pastor, will share some Christmas traditions during the Sunday Forum.  The Rev. Val Lehman, also a Moravian Pastor, will lead our children during Faith Formation, in making Christingles…a custom which had its beginnings in the Moravian Church.

On Sunday, 23 December, we will reflect on the invitation to love all people…aware that by God taking on flesh…in his son, Jesus of Nazareth…all persons have been given inestimable value.  How do you seek to love all people…what specific ways have you conspired to live life a bit differently this Advent Season!  After the Second Service, we will decorate the Worship Space for Christmas!  You are most welcome to help with this activity which usually concludes with a potluck of delicious chili in the Fellowship Hall.

So, fellow conspirators…won’t you join me throughout the Season of Advent and make an intentional commitment to WORSHIP FULLY, SPEND LESS, GIVE MORE AND LOVE ALL?

I hope to see you at Worship!
