Because of our Baptism into Christ’s death and resurrection…we are a Missional People of Faith who worship, proclaim, teach, serve and care!

Part of the privilege of serving as Rector/Pastor of our Faith Community is the opportunity to reflect on our common life and offer my own Pastoral reflections…and encouragement at least once a year in my Pastoral Address at our Annual Meeting.

For several years, we have been focused on our Missional Declaration: As People of Faith, we worship, we proclaim, we teach, we serve, we care! In my Pastoral Address, I suggested that last Sunday’s Gospel text from Luke 4:14-21 (quoting Isaiah 61) was Jesus’ Life Verse…a text from the Hebrew Scriptures which gave Jesus an identity…and a purpose! He knew himself to be sent…a unique manifestation of God who was sent to proclaim release, recovery, liberty and favor!

Because we share in Christ’s Missional life through Baptism, we also are sent…to participate in God’s Mission manifest in Jesus, the Risen Christ!

I invited those who were part of our assembly to consider these two questions: 1) What are your life verses in the Hebrew and Christian Scriptures and 2) What gifts are you being invited to offer during the coming year for the sake of participating in God’s Mission?

God has a mission and God’s mission has a church…each of us…a Missional People who worship, proclaim, teach, serve and care!

A PDF of the key points of my Pastoral Address, including the Five Marks of Mission, is attached!

Thank you for the privilege of serving with and among you!

Every blessing,

Doug
