Celebrating the Saints and making a Financial Commitment to St. Luke’s for 2014

All Saints Sunday was a wonderful day.  I woke up at 4:30 a.m. (thanks to daylight savings ending)  I got up and prayed for a bit of time then prepared to make my way to St. Luke’s.  A clear and crisp morning, the sun was shining and it was just magnificent.

Fellowship Hall Consecration Sunday 2013

The Fellowship Hall was festive and so lovely.  I want to thank Judy So, Julie Phyliky, Margee Lichty, Erica Yahn, Jane Reiman, Robin Caldwell, Diane O’Mara, Ivy Akogyeram, Kay Batchelder and Sarah Wiersbeck for their work in preparing for our Consecration Sunday Brunch.  Our brunch was catered by Johnny Mango’s Restaurant and the food was delicious.  I also want to thank everyone who helped to clean up after the brunch.  Without so many wonderful folks, we would not be able to have such wonderful celebrations.  I give thanks to our Chancel Choir who played bells and sang so beautifully under the direction of our Director of Music, Mrs. Rosalie Alcoser.

Mr. Rich Simons, who serves as Senior Warden of St. Mark’s Cathedral in Minneapolis and also on the Trustees of the Episcopal Church in Minnesota, gave a wonderful and direct address, inviting us to consider our identity, context and sustainable structures as we consider making a financial commitment to St. Luke’s for the coming year.  You can listen to his address on the St. Luke’s website under Worship by clicking on the 2013 Preaching Archive and a PDF is available here.

Simons Consecration Sunday 2013

As of Monday, 4 November, we had received 69 Pledges with a total amount of $ 213,856 pledged to support our participation in God’s mission for the coming year.  A Letter and Pledge Card have been mailed to those who were not able to be part of our celebration and make a financial commitment to support our desire to engage God’s mission.  If you would like to make a financial commitment, would you complete your pledge card and return it by 15 November?  It is our hope to complete this year’s Stewardship process by 17 November.

We stand on the shoulders of so many saints who have gone before us in faith. In 2014, we will celebrate the 50th Anniversary of being established as a Parish in the Episcopal Diocese of Minnesota at the Annual Convention in January of 1964.  We are blessed by the faithfulness and generosity of so many people whose lives are woven into the tapestry of St. Luke’s in Rochester.  We are marking this important anniversary with Choral Evensong and High Tea on Sunday, 23 February 2014.  Bishop Brian Prior will join us for this celebration and we hope to extend an invitation to all those saints of God who are part of “the living stones of this holy temple”, our Community of Faith and have offered “a sacrifice of praise and prayer” these many years.  These two phrases come from the Preface for the Dedication of a Church in the Book of Common Prayer page 381.  So, put this date on your calendars today and once again, thank you for your generosity!

Every blessing,

Doug
